Day 1
Lisbon
Arrival at the airport and transfer to hotel.
Day 2
Lisbon – Sintra (36km/40min) – Cascais (16km/20min) – Estoril (3km) – Lisbon (32km/40min)
Morning visit of Lisbons landmarks including Downtown, the Cathedral, Alfama quarter with its narrow and tortuous streets going up and down; Belem quarter: the section of Lisbon with numerous monuments, the royal Coaches Museum and church of Jeronimos Monastery. Afternoon tour to Sintra, well known for its charming narrow roads enveloped in lush greenery. Noble houses and palaces with walled gardens and stately courtyards are scattered through out the forested hills, reveling in the soft, cool micro-climate resulting from the mountain location of the surrounding area. Visit of the Town Palace in Sintra. Return to Lisbon passing by Cascais and Estoril. Overnight.
Day 3
Lisbon – Obidos (90km/1h30min) – Alcobaca (40km/40min) - Nazare (42km/45min)
Departure to Obidos, a charming walled Medieval village, where we will have a walking tour through the medieval streets. Proceed to Alcobaca, visit the church of the Monastery of the Cistercian order with the tombs of Pedro and Ines de Castro. Continue to Nazare, famous for its fishermen costumes and colourful boats.Free time to explore the city on your own. Overnight.
Day 4
Nazare - Batalha (44km/45min) – Fatima (40km/40min)– Lisbon (142km/2h20min)
Departure to Batalha, visit of the church and cloisters of the Batalha Monastery – masterpiece of the Portuguese Gothic and Manueline art. Continue to Fatima, centre of christian faith. Visit the santuary. Free time to explore the city on your own. Overnight.
Day 5
Lisbon –Funchal(flight)
Transfer to Lisbon airport for a flight to Funchal. Have a city tour, including the opportunity to see the flower section, vegetables and fish section at the market place. The next visit will be at the embroidery factory to see all the processes through which our famous hand made embroidery passes, before it is sold at the shop. Then we head on to the botanical gardens, to appreciate the magnificent plants and trees. To finalize the excursion we visit a wine cellar for some wine tasting. Overnight.
Day 6
Funchal – Camacha (14km/10min) - Pico do Areeiro(14km/10min) - Ribeiro Frio(9km) – Santana (16km/15min) – Funchal (40km/30min)
Leaving Funchal we take the road that leads to Camacha, a village famous for being the wickerwork centre of the island. Here a visit will be made to a wickerwork store. The next stop will be at Pico do Areeiro, one of the highest points on the island at 1810m and then Ribeiro Frio, where you visit a trout hatchery. From here continue to Santana, a village famous for its typical thatched roofed houses, where we will have lunch. The way back to Funchal will be via Porto Cruz, Portela and Machico. At Portela fine views can be obtained looking down on the north side of the island to Porto da Cruz and the Penha D'aguia which stands between Faial and Porto da cruz. Overnight in Funchal.
Day 7
Funchal – Camara de Lobos (10km/10min) - Cabo Girao(5km) – Porto Moniz (45km/50min) - Sao Vicente(15km/10min) – Funchal (35km/40min)
Today go towards Camara de Lobos, a typical fishing village, and then to Cabo Girao, passing by Estreito de Camara de Lobos. Cabo Girao, the second highest cliff in the world 580m above sea level. Then go on to Ribeira Brava, Ponta do sol and Paul da Serra, the only plateau on the island at 1400m. After crossing Paul da serra, reach Porto Moniz. This village on the northwest coast is known for its volcanic swimming pools. On the way to Sao Vicente, discover one of the most beautiful points of the north coast, an outlook built on the rocks near the sea where we can admire the astonishing waterfalls. Carry on to Encumeada, a summit where both parts of the island (north and south) can be seen at the same time. Return to Funchal, passing by the beautiful valley of Serra D'Agua. Overnight in Funchal.
Day 8
Funchal – Pico dos Barcelos (43km/45min) - Eira do Serrado(50km/1h) – Monte– Madeira (10km/10min) – Funchal (21km/20min)
Begin the tour by going up to Pico dos Barcelos, a viewpoint overlooking the city of Funchal. From here continue to Eira do Serrado, viewpoint overlooking the Nun's Valley, a settlement that grew after the 16th century when French pirates attacked Madeira. Spectacular views of the valley and the surroundings. Continue to Monte by cable car. Visit the lovely 18th century church of Our Lady of the Mountain, Madeira's patron saint. Discover the tomb of Austria's last Emperor Charles IV, who was buried here in 1922. Madeira is noted by its amazing wickerwork, and we'll have the opportunity to see displays of it and even have a ride in a wicker sledge ! Afternoon at leisure. Return to Funchal. Overnight.
Day 9
Funchal
Transfer to the airport for final departure.
